Since 2000, here at the Newtown Veterinary Hospital, we hold a Pet Fair on our
property in September. The day's events are always so enjoyable that we look forward to them all
year. Many local animal rescue groups come and join us, as do different service groups.
In the past, we have had the local animal emergency services, Warminster K9 unit,
and various search and rescue organizations come for the event. The K9 unit and search and rescue groups have even put on
demonstrations for those who join us.
Our parade is always the culminating event of the day. Everyone is invited to sign
up for it. Different categories in the past have been: Owner/Pet Look Alike, Best Costume, Shortest Dog, Longest Ears, and
Cutest Couple.
There are parade prizes, raffles, a face painter, and much more every year.

Members of our veterinary care team from
Newtown Veterinary Hospital participate in Career Fairs at many of the local
schools. Students can talk one on one with
our doctors and technicians about
careers in veterinary medicine. Topics
discussed include academic requirements,
local colleges and universities that
offer veterinary programs, and the ins
and and outs of a career in the animal
field. If you attend, be sure to stop by
our table as we always bring along lots
of fun facts, interesting radiographs, and
sometimes a few of our animal friends! |

As a member of the Newtown Business and Professional Association, we participate in Welcome
Day each year. The different businesses gather on State Street on a Saturday in May. Each one discusses what they do.
Restaurants in the area provide food at their own stands, and there are usually music groups or a DJ. It is a good day for
all to meet the community and get to know one another.

Dr. Summers with a Brownie
troop |
Our hospital provides tours for local
scout groups. One of our technicians guide the children through the inner workings of our facilities. The scouts are shown how an examination
is performed with the help of one of our
veterinarians and told how operations are completed. X-rays are viewed and medical equipment is studied. The tours end with
a Question and Answer session.
Tours can be scheduled
by our office manager. The tours are usually
between 3pm and 5pm on selected days. We do not perform them on Mondays or Weekends. There is a limit of 10 children per tour (this includes
the scouts and any additional siblings that may join us that day). Troops that have more children will be split into smaller
groups and tour on separate days.
If you would like to schedule a tour for your troop, please contact us at (215) 968-3895.

Spay/Neuter Clinic
NVH
is proud to partner with CARES (Center for
Animal Referral and Emergency Service) and
Hope for the Animals for monthly spay/neuter
clinics.
During these clinics, which occur on the third Sunday
of every month, doctors and staff come in
and volunteer their time to help spay and
neuter animals that Hope for the Animals
have up for adoption. CARES provides the
anesthesia and NVH provide the staff and
time.
February was our first clinic and it was a
smashing success! We thank all staff members
who came and helped out! |

Devon and a class in 2009 |
High School science classes often come to observe our doctors at work. Many times they come
and watch Dr. Timothy Ireland while he performs surgeries. They are usually here from 2 to 4 hours, observing all aspects
of a surgery day.
If you would like to have members of your biology classes come and observe, please contact our
Practice Manager, Trish at (215) 958-3895. She will be happy to schedule a time which is convenient to all.

Many times children show an eagerness to learn about veterinary medicine and an inclination
to one day be a Veterinarian. Dr. Ireland loves to have them shadow him for a few hours here at the hospital. We have a Groundhog
Shadow Day with a local school, where students come and watch him work. They have the opportunity to follow him through a
morning of appointments. They observe routine exams, blood work, x-rays, and more. It is a wonderful chance for them to see
what veterinary medicine is all about. Scheduling a shadow day can be done with our Practice Manager,
Trish, or with Dr. Ireland himself at (215) 968-3895.
